The Focus of PPA...
is on performance as well as technique. It is our policy to try and enable all our students to use and develop their performance skills as often as possible throuigh various showcases and large scale productions.
The technique is also vital in order to improve and achieve what is necessary, therefore classes are dedicated to this important aspect. However, technical expertise is wasted without the ability
to communicate with an audience via performance using the eyes, face and body language.
PPA aims to...
---Provide our students with a unique opportunity to experience various disciplines of dance, singing and drama and provide an exceptionally high standard of teaching in all aspects.
---Encourage and reward effort and achievement.
---Provide all our students with the opportunity to perform regularly at major theatres.
---Provide students with a warm and friendly environment, whilst learning a variety of professional, disciplined art form.
---Encourage and assist those wishing to go into performing arts as a career
---PPA believes that the welfare of children is paramount- Click here for our Child Protection Policy
PPA in Performance...
PPA have a minimum of three shows a year held at various local venues, including The Playhouse Theatre, Whitstable, The Gulbenkian Theatre, Canterbury, The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury and The Arden Theatre,
Faversham. We tend to run a Junior musical/play, a Senior musical/play and a group variety programme (PPA LIVE) per year, but this formula varies. These performances are open to the public and principal
parts are by audition only. For some productions, we audition in-house only, others we open up auditions to the public. We also have Summer/Easter School productions, plus many in-house shows. We also
have a 'PPA Cabaret Group' who perform regularly around kent and receive a small fee for each performance. (see Cabaret Group below)
Easter and Summer Schools...
PPA run an annual Summer School around the 1st or 2nd week of August, and an Easter School in the either week of the Easter Holidays. The school is based on a current musical ie the last Easter School
was based on 'Camp Rock'. Students spend the week at Hampton School in Herne Bay, taking part in dance, drama, singing, and musical theatre classes, which work towards a full scale production at the end
of the week. This is then performed at The Arden Theatre at the week-end with all the aspects of a regular show ie sound, lighting, scenery and costumes. It is a unique experience first made available
in this area by PPA. Past Summer/Easter school productions have included, Extracts from We Will Rock You, Extracts from Oliver, Godspell, and The Boyfriend, Extracts from Starlight Express, Extracts from
Chicago, Extracts from FAME.
Local Cabaret Performances
We have regular bookings for our PPA Caberet Group to perform at Wedding Anniversaries, Birthday Parties, New Years Day Celebrations etc. Many students are offered the oppurtunity to be a part of these
and it helps to build their performance experience and showcase their talents. Entry to the Cabaret Group is by audition.
Singing Presentations / Drama evenings
We have regular events which allow students to show what they have learned and how much they have improved. These are often in-house occasions.
Choreographic Competitions
These enable students to explore their own sense of creativity. The performing world cannot survive on performers alone, it needs the choreographers, directors, lighting designers etc to bring the show
to life. These normally happen once a year.
